Mansfield is a town located in the heart of the Ozarks in Wright county of south-west Missouri. With only 1,349 People (counted by the 2000 census) and 1.6 sq miles it is a small town with low population density. It is noted for a few landmarks and people like the Laura Ingalls Wilder home (pictured at right) and the Mansfield Lions baseball team which is under full time instruction of coach Douglas Jones who is in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
Mansfield is also home to many important businesses such as the headquarters to the evangelical missions agency Friends in Action and the Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company, a company working to preserve rare vegetable crop varieties. The Baker Creek Spring Planting Festival draws 6,000 people each spring to Mansfield to celebrate. The activities include a music show, speakers on agricultural, horticultural, and agro-political topics, historic demonstrations, and an open-air bazaar with plant and seed vendors’ booths.
